History of the American Society of Safety Engineers
Founded in 1911, the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) is the world's oldest and largest professional safety organization. ASSE's mission is to advance the technical, scientific, managerial and ethical knowledge, skills and competency of safety, occupational health and environmental professionals for the protection of people, property and the environment.
Its 32,000 members manage, supervise and consult on safety health and environmental issues in industry, insurance, government and education. Safety professionals help prevent accidents, injuries and occupational diseases, create safer work and leisure environments and develop safe products for all areas of human activity.
ASSE Society Mission:
The American Society of Safety Engineers Foundation, established by and in partnership with the American Society of Safety Engineers, generates funding and provides resources for scholarship, applied research, academic accreditation, and related academic initiatives in order to advance the safety, health, and environmental profession.
